Humanitarian Award

Providence Health and Services awarded Stephy Nobles-Beans with the 2024 Sister Peter Claver Humanitarian Award.

The award recognizes people who show leadership and commitment to their community service. Noble-Beans, or "Mama Beans," served as the associate chaplain for diversity, equity and inclusion in campus ministries at Whitworth University.  She worked as an educator, assistant pastor, motivational speaker and author. Noble-Beans opened her doors to victims of abuse in 2005-2017.

The award was named after Sister Peter Claver. She led Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for 20 years and is best known for her humanitarian work in the region.  Stephy Nobles-Beans is the first woman of color to receive the award since its 50 year inception.
